Rendez vous à 1ohoo devant notre premier boathouse privé pour un petit ride sur les canaux vers le Bellaire lake, à bord d’un des tout premier Chris Craft construit en 193o, un 26’ Runabout, le "XIV".

C’est notre première prise de contact avec les lacs américains, leurs boathouses et leurs nombreux canots classiques amarrés. Un seul mot d’ordre pour respecter ce spectacle s’impose à chacun, "No wake, no wave". Au détour de notre balade, nous attendent quelques surprises : un hydravion par là et un très rare Curly Craft par ici dans cette eau toujours aussi limpide et transparente.
It’s our first contact with the U.S. lakes, their boathouses their several classics boat moored. Only one word for each to respect the show "No wake, no wave" Along our walk, we are waitting by some surprises, here an hydravion and in other place one very rare Curly Craft and a lot of things like these, and still in the water so crystal clear and transparent.
Retour au boathouse, changement de bateau, nous montons à bord d’un Hacker Craft 29’, direction Torch Lake pour un petit speed run, avant de revenir partager le ponton du boathouse avec le troisième bateau, un canot Chris Craft 2o’ Riviera des années 5o.
We go back to the boathouse, and we change our boat for an 29-foot Hacker Craft we go to Torch lake for a little speed run, before we return to share the boathouse dock with the third boat, a 2o-foot Chris Craft Riviera to the fifties.

Après midi, visite du chantier "Wood Boat Restoration & Repair" de Gary HUTCHENS, en cours de restauration un Chris Craft Sportman 24’.

Fin de journée, arrivée à Charlevoix et le soir, Lou nous convie à un" Dinner picnic at his home", au programme une virée en voilier, skippé par Francis, pour le plus jeune un tour de jet ski et pour terminer une balade au crespucule jusqu’au lac Michigan avec un Chris Craft Replica de 23’ Barrelback.
At the end of day, arrival in Charlevoix and for the evening, Lou invite us at a picnic in his home for dinner, before we do sailing with Francis like skipper, Jet ski for the youngest and for the end a twilight ride in board of a 23-foot Sister Fish Chris Craft Barrelback, until Michigan Lake.

Nous partons de Charlevoix avec Lou direction le Sud Est vers Boyne City, où nous attendent Michel BERRYER et son fils Patrick. Nous embarquons à bord de Iris, un Trunk Cabin Lauch de 31’, pour une traversée du lac de Charlevoix et la visite d’une collection privée.
With Lou we get out Charlevoix to Boyne City on the south east. We are waiting by Michel BERRYER and his son Patrick. We get in board to the Iris boat a 31-foot Van Dam Trunk Cabin Lauch, to go through Charlevoix Lake and visit a fine private collection of antique and classic boats.
Dans les eaux limpides d’un immense boat house, au coté d’un canot en bois de facture récente, sont amarrés deux runabouts Chris Craft triple cockpit : un 23’ Custom Runabout de 194o et un 27’ Custom Runabout Barel-Back. Dans un autre, une réplique d’un Racer John Hacker réalisée par Van Dam "Big Mouth Charle" et un magnifique Chris Craft Constellation de 57’, alors que sur leurs remorques d’autres canots parfaitement alignés sous leurs taud se trouvent là.
In the crystal clear water of an bigger boathouse, near current wooden boat, two runabouts Chris Craft triple cockpit are moored : a 194o 23-foot Custom Runabout and a 27-foot Custom Runabout Barel-Back. In an other we find a Racer John Hacker replica built by Van Dam the "Big Mouth Charle" and a very beautiful 57-foot Chris Craft Constellation. While on their trailer other boats perfectly aligned under their cover are there.
"Iris" nous ramène à Boyne City pour un déjeuner dans un restaurant français "Cafe Santé" sur le bord du lac.

Départ pour le chantier Van Dam et visite commentée par Michel le designer. Il nous présente les projets en cours et les bateaux terminés ainsi que ceux en cours de restauration, notamment un Greavette 24’ Streamliner Triple Cockpit de 1938 et un Ventnor 2o’ Runabout de 1949. Leur imagination ne semble pas avoir de limite, c’est par moment hallucinant.
After eating, departure to the Van Dam boatyard and the designer Michel makes us a guided tour. Showing current projects and boats finished and so in restoration in particulara 1938 24-foot Greavette Streamliner Triple Cockpit and a 1949 2o-foot Ventnor Runabout. Their imagination don’t have limit, now and then it’s really incredible.

Au matin, nous faisons nos adieux à Lou, nous ne saurons jamais assez le remercier pour cette magnifique organisation et ces fabuleux bateaux qu’il nous a fait voir.
In the morning, we said good bye to Lou, never we could thank him for his great trip and all these beautiful boats that we can see.
Nous reprenons l’U.S. Route 31, direction Petoskey, puis Harbor Spring, nous flanons le long du lac Michigan pour enfin arriver au pont Mackinaw Bridge, qui enjambe la ligne de partage des eaux entre les lacs Michigan et Huron.
We take again the 31 U.S. road, to pestoskey, and after Habor spring we drive Slowly along the Michigan lake and we arrive on the Mackinaw Bridge which cross over the water limit between Michigan and Huron lakes.
A Saint Ignace, un ferry rapide nous emmène sur l’île de Mackinaw, interdite aux voitures, paradis des vélos et des attelages hypomobiles et bien sûr des marcheurs.
In Saint Ignace, we catch the ferry boat to the Mackinaw island, on there are no car, only bikes, horses with buggy and of course walker.

Le samedi 14 se tiendra le 33ème rassemblement de bateaux classiques de Hessel sous l’égide de l’A.C.B.S. et de son Chapter Water Wonderland.
On Saturday 14th wiil get the thirty-third classic boat show of Hessel, under the responsability of the A.C.&B.S. and the local chapter Water Wonderland. Arrivés en avance, nous pouvons assister aux préparatifs du Boat Show et au fil des pontons apercevoir quelques bateaux classiques. Un Chris Craft 41’ Double Cabin Fly Bridge Cruiser 1949/195o, un Chris Craft 18’ Sea Skiff 1954/1959, deux Chris Craft 21’ Utility Deluxe 1937/1939.
The preparation of the boat show are started yet and walking on the dock we can see some classic boat, like a 41-foot Chris Craft Double Cabin Fly Bridge Cruiser of 1949/195o, a 1954/1959 18-foot Chris Craft Sea Skiff, two 1937/1939 21-foot Chris Craft Utility Deluxe.
Nous arrivons devant le plus ancien ship store des Etats Unis établi là depuis 1925 et nous retrouvons Gerry Vande Vusse qui nous présente à Tom Flood passionné des bateaux Hacker Craft, qui nous attend avec une surprise.
We are in front of the oldest ship shop of the United States established there since 1925 and we find Gerry Vande Vusse who introduce us to Tom Flood lover of Hacker Craft boat who waits for us with a surprise.
En effet, il nous invite à monter à bord de "Wuzz a’ Fuzz" un modèle Hacker Craft unique aux U.S.A., c’est un ancien bateau de police dont seulement cinq exemplaires ont été construits. Cette extraordinaire coque de 31’ de 1948 est motorisée par deux moteurs 7,2 liters Mercruiser de 330 Hp chacun.
Indeed, he invites us to go on board of "Wuzz a’ Fuzz" kind of Hacker Craft in States, it’s an old police boat which only five copies were built. These extraordinary hull is a 1948 31-foot, motorized by two engines, are a 454 cubic inch (7.2 liters) Mercruiser and 330 Horse power each. It’s on board of it that we have boating on the Huron lake and visiting the Cheneaux islands.
Arrivés à son boathouse , à l’extérieur se trouve un Hacker Craft Utility, à l’intérieur un Dolphin 25’ et sur terre un exceptionnel Cadet 16’, du jamais vu !
Arrived in his boathouse, outdoor there is an Hacker Craft Utility, indoor a 25-foot Dolphin and on the ground an exceptional 16-foot Cadet, never seen.
Après cette étonnante visite, nous nous dirigeons vers la maison de Gerry Vande Vusse où, sous son boathouse sont abrités deux Chris Craft, un 27’ Sedan Fly Bridge de 1956 et un 17’ Holiday de 1962.
After these surprising visit, we go towards the Gerry Vande Vusse’s house, where, under his boathouse are sheltered two Chris Craft, an 1956 27-foot Sedan Fly Bridge and an 1962 17-foot Holiday.
Nous sommes présentés à John Bergstrom, vice-président de l’Antique Classic & Boat Society. Ensemble, nous partageons un picnic convivial et familial.

Au programme, mais cette fois avec des bateaux plein la tête.
Restaurant à Green Bay, hôtel à Manitowoc, arrivée à l’aéoroport, restitution de notre voiture, nous avons très exactement parcouru 1 111 miles.

VISITE DE MONSIEUR LE MAIRE DE BORDEAUX, ALAIN JUPPÉ.

Le 22 juillet monsieur Alain JUPPÉ, maire de Bordeaux, accompagné de madame Muriel PARCELIER, Maire-adjoint du quartier de la Bastide ont été acceuilli par Jean Bernard NICOLAS, du chantier naval NICOLAS et Gilbert VACHERET président de la Société Nautique de Bordeaux.

Au cours de leur visite, nos invités ont pu découvrir toute la passion et toute la difficulté qu’il faut pour redonner une nouvelle vie à ces bateaux arrivés souvent en très mauvais état. Qu’elles soient à moteur ou à voile, toutes ces coques font l’objet de beaucoup d’attentions. Pour qu’une fois restaurées, elles puissent à nouveau naviguer et fendre les eaux de la Garonne.

C’est à bord de trois de ces canots automobiles, un Hacker Craft 3o’ réplique de 1935, un Pedrazzini 21’ de la même période et un Chris Craft Super Sport 21’ de 1965, que nous avons partagé ensemble le plaisir de naviguer, longeant les quais de la rive gauche et les berges arborées de la rive droite.

Une fois les pieds posés sur le ponton Port Bastide, c’est autour d’un verre que nous avons remercié monsieur le Maire pour sa visite.
